Doors Open Days (DOD) is an annual highlight at Royal Observatory Edinburgh (ROE). Welcoming the public on site every September to discover more about all the amazing work and research taking place across ROE.
Despite not being able to offer tours of the Victorian telescope dome and various essential repair works, we were still able to welcome more than 2,200 visitors across the weekend. They enjoyed demonstrations, crafts and LEGO while hearing about exciting projects like Euclid, MOONS and more.
The feedback from the public was overwhelmingly positive, with over 97% saying they really enjoyed (79%) or enjoyed (18%) the event.
We had some wonderful feedback from visitors:
“It was amazing, enjoyable and educational, thank you"
“We come every year and it never disappoints. It was fantastic again!"
“Always try to come to this. It's really interesting to see the amazing research that goes on."
“I really enjoyed it and especially liked the LEGO and this was an amazing day"
An incredible mix of talent came together to make DOD happen with volunteers from UK ATC, the University of Edinburgh's Institute for Astronomy, STFC, the Higgs Centre for Innovation, work experience students and the Astronomy Society of Edinburgh. Your support isn't just helpful, it's essential. So, thank you for all your time, energy and enthusiasm, it made a real impact.
