This was the first image taken by VISTA that was released to the public back in 2009. It shows the star-forming Flame Nebula (aka NGC 2024) region in the constellation of Orion.
The UK ATC was responsible for the design and construction of VISTA, the world's largest dedicated infrared survey telescope, that is part of the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Cerro Paranal Observatory in Chile.
Delivery of VISTA was a major part of the UK becoming a member of ESO.
