The Royal Observatory Edinburgh will host an international workshop in March 2026, bringing together leading experts to explore the intersection of cutting-edge science and advanced astronomical instrumentation.

Jointly organised by the UK Astronomy Technology Centre and the University of Edinburgh's Institute for Astronomy, the event will focus on early science results from ERIS at the ESO Very Large Telescope and the forthcoming capabilities of HARMONI on the Extremely Large Telescope. These instruments represent a major leap forward in ground-based astronomy, enabling diffraction-limited imaging and spectroscopy at unprecedented resolutions.

The workshop aims to foster collaboration between scientists and instrument developers, with sessions covering topics from solar system studies to galaxy evolution and cosmology.

Places are open to astronomers, university researchers and partner organisations. Attendance is free, with lunch and coffee provided.
