Royal Observatory Edinburgh Doors Open Days cancelled

The Royal Observatory Edinburgh (ROE) has announced the cancellation of its planned Doors Open Days event due to essential building works taking place on site. 

Originally scheduled to welcome visitors for a weekend of science and discovery on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, the event will no longer go ahead as planned.   

The decision was made because the works will limit access across parts of the site and would significantly affect the visitor experience during the event.  

Professor Christophe Dumas, ROE Head of Site and Director of the UK Astronomy Technology Centre, said: “While we’re disappointed not to be opening our doors this year, the estate works underway are vital to preserving and enhancing the Observatory for future generations. We look forward to welcoming the public back soon.”  

Professor Ken Rice, Head of the University of Edinburgh’s Institute for Astronomy, added: “The Royal Observatory has always been a place of inspiration and learning. Though we’re taking a pause this year, we’re excited about what’s ahead and remain committed to engaging the public with the wonders of astronomy.”
